Counter Tax Litigators’ Code of Conduct

Standards That Govern Our Work

We hold ourselves to the highest professional and ethical standards because our clients trust us with their most complex and high-stakes tax disputes. Our reputation and results depend on rigorous legal strategy, intellectual honesty, and an unwavering commitment to excellence and integrity.

Integrity
We advance our clients’ interests through disciplined, well-reasoned advocacy. Our arguments rest on law, facts, and logic. We do not rely on tactics that weaken credibility or compromise long-term position.
Ethical Boundaries
Reputation is a strategic asset. We protect it by declining actions that compromise integrity, regardless of short-term advantage. We do not cross ethical lines to gain leverage.
Professional Conduct

We conduct ourselves with restraint and professionalism in all interactions with clients, opposing counsel, and the courts. We focus on the arguments that matter and avoid unnecessary conflict.

Intellectual Discipline
We test our own cases rigorously. Weaknesses are addressed early. Strategy remains structured, evidence-based, and aligned with the best available path forward. Ideas stand on merit, not authorship.
Judgment

We exercise independent judgment at every stage of a dispute. Decisions are made deliberately, with awareness of downstream consequences. We do not defer to convention, habit, or pressure when judgment is required.

Clients
We provide direct advice and clear strategic framing. We maintain discretion as a matter of practice, not policy. We act only where our involvement materially improves the client’s position.

Our Standard
is Clear

This Code sets the standards that govern our work. They define how judgment is exercised, decisions are made, and credibility is maintained.
